Where this comes from
The official form is published by afca.org.au; this page is a completion guide. Last checked on 2026-10-17.
When to use it
Use when a member, beneficiary or estate wants AFCA to review a superannuation trustee's or insurer's decision after internal dispute resolution. Not for disputes with an SMSF trustee, which go to court.
How AI may be used
AI can summarise the trustee's decision and draft the complaint narrative from the file. Strict time limits must be calculated and diarised by a person, and every fact checked against the documents.
AI may
- Summarise the trustee's notices, reasons and IDR response
- Build a dated chronology from the documents with page references
- Draft the 'what happened' narrative for the lawyer to edit
AI must not
- Must not calculate or diarise the 28-day objection or AFCA lodgement deadlines without a person checking them
- Must not add facts, relationships or medical opinions that are not in the documents
- Must not receive health or family information in a tool whose terms allow training on inputs
The lawyer checks
- Jurisdiction and standing, including that the fund is not an SMSF
- Time limits under s 1056 and the current AFCA Rules
- Every date and fact in the narrative against the source documents
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
