- The Attorney General states that a California resident may ask a business to disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information, the sources, purposes and third parties, to delete personal information collected from them (and tell service providers to do the same), to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of sale or sharing. A request to know may be made twice a year at no charge. Deletion has statutory exceptions, including where the business is legally required to keep the information. The business, not its service provider, responds. Verify identity before anything is disclosed. If the records are protected health information, the HIPAA access rule is a separate track. Opinion 512 and Model Rule 1.6: the pack contains client and consumer information.
