List every place an address, phone number, school or workplace appears in the draft packet, and whether the instructions say the person uses a substitute address. Redact nothing yourself.
What the lawyer must review
18 USC section 2265(d)(3) forbids a state, tribe or territory from making publicly available on the internet information about the registration, filing or issuance of a protection order if publication would be likely to reveal the identity or location of the protected person. The California Secretary of State's Safe at Home program provides a substitute mailing address for victims of domestic violence and certain other people, which state, county and city agencies accept in place of a residential address. Family Code section 6345 allows service on the Secretary of State, rather than personal service, when the protected person has met the Government Code section 6205 requirements and a non-protected party seeks to change or end the order. You check every page that will be served or posted. Opinion 512 and Model Rule 1.6: do not put the residential address into a public tool.
