Checklist
- A person conducting a business or undertaking must have a safe work method statement prepared before high risk construction work commences. The statement must be site-specific. A generic statement is reviewed against the site.
- As a minimum, the statement identifies the high risk work, specifies the hazards and risks, describes the control measures, describes how those measures are implemented, monitored and reviewed, and is understood by the people using it.
- The statement is given to the principal contractor and updated when control measures change. It is kept at the workplace until the work is completed, or kept electronically if it is readily available to workers.
- If the work is not carried out in accordance with the statement, work ceases immediately or as soon as it is safe, and does not resume until it can be carried out in accordance with the statement.
- Confirm the high risk list against the regulation in force. The construction page links its list to a 2017 regulation provision, and the statement page refers to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2025.
