Build the trading-halt request record from the awareness timeline

Key facts

Human involvement

How AI is used
From the emails and board notes the lawyer marks as the awareness record, list when the entity became aware of the information, whether it is ready to announce, and which of the Listing Rule 17.1 items are still blank: the reasons, how long the halt should last, the event expected to end it, the statement that the entity is not aware of any reason the halt should not be granted, and any other information needed to inform the market. Do not write the letter to the exchange.
What the lawyer must review
The lawyer decides whether to request a halt or a voluntary suspension, who makes the request, and writes the letter. The lawyer checks that the reasons describe the general nature of the announcement.

Checklist

  1. The reasons must describe the general nature of the announcement. Guidance Note 16 says it is not enough to say an announcement is pending.
  2. Listing Rule 17.1.1 says the halt cannot exceed the period permitted under the Operating Rules. The note under rule 17.1.1 cites Operating Rule 16.4.2: a halt can be applied for a period not exceeding the commencement of normal trading on the second trading day after the day it is requested. Guidance Note 16 also describes a maximum of two trading days, or up to four for back-to-back halts in an accelerated capital raising. A longer stop is a voluntary suspension under Listing Rule 17.2.
  3. The request is made by the Listing Rule 12.6 contact, or a director or other responsible officer if that person is unavailable. During office hours the entity telephones the home branch before emailing the letter.
  4. The tool does not write the letter.

Guidance Note 16 was opened. The Chapter 17 PDF is the rule text it applies. The lawyer confirms the current Operating Rules procedure before the request is sent.
