Check a calling list against the register before the calls are made
Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- From the campaign brief, copy the numbers to be called, whether each is described as a home, mobile or fax number, and any consent the brief already records. Leave the register result blank. The tool does not say a number may be called.
- What the lawyer must review
- The lawyer decides which numbers may be called. The ACMA page says the register does not block calls. It lets a business check its list and remove numbers that are on the register before it calls. After a number has been on the register for 30 days, a telemarketer may call only with consent or if the caller is exempt. The page of exempt callers was not opened, so no exemption is applied from this note. A business number cannot be added to the register, unless the phone is also used personally and personal use is more than 50 percent. Consent can be withdrawn. This check is the voice and fax list. It is not the email or SMS campaign check.

Checklist
- Do not treat a number as safe to call until it has been checked against the register.
- If the number was registered less than 30 days ago, do not treat the limit as already in force.
- Do not apply an exemption. That list was not opened.
- Record a withdrawal of consent as the end of that consent.

These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
