- How AI is used
- Summarise the request, the governing-document rule it engages, and the medical or disability facts the owner has actually provided. Do not grant or refuse the request.
- What the lawyer must review
- The Fair Housing Act, 42 U.S.C. § 3604(f)(3)(B), treats as discrimination a refusal to make reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices or services when the accommodation may be necessary to afford a person with a handicap an equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling. Separately, California Civil Code § 4715 says governing documents shall not prohibit an owner from keeping at least one pet, subject to reasonable association rules, defines pet, and limits a new numerical cap so that it does not remove a pet the owner already keeps in compliance with the previous rules. Section 4715 applies to governing documents entered into, amended or modified on or after 1 January 2001. You decide whether the request is a pet under the governing documents, a reasonable accommodation, or both, under the law of the state where the dwelling is. You write the response.
