Checklist
- Confirm the collection text names the authorising law, the purpose, that it is not an offence to refuse, and the consequences of refusal.
- Confirm the number is not used to prove identity for a financial institution, as a national identifier, or for matching, unless the guide’s authorising laws apply.
- For a number received incidentally, record that it must not be used or recorded inconsistently with the rule, and that destruction or de-identification applies when the number is no longer required, subject to the Archives Act point for a Commonwealth record.
