Check whether exported goods qualify for a duty drawback

Key facts

Human involvement
YellowClose supervision
How AI is used
From the import entry, the export evidence and the use of the goods after importation, set out whether the file shows duty paid, export, and either no use in Australia or a use the drawback page allows. State the claim amount against the duty paid. Do not lodge the claim.
What the lawyer must review
The lawyer decides whether the claimant was the legal owner at export, whether a disqualifying use or a prior refund applies, and whether the claim is lodged.

Checklist

  1. Trace the exported goods to the import entry on which duty was paid, and confirm the amount claimed does not exceed that duty.
  2. Confirm the goods were not used in Australia, or that the use is inspection, exhibition, manufacture into other exported goods, or a process or treatment followed by export.
  3. For tobacco, confirm the pre-export notice was given at least 5 business days before export and that the 12-month period is still open.
