How AI is used
For each citation in the draft, record the pinpoint and whether the source the lawyer supplied contains that page or section. Mark a citation that has no source in the file. Do not add a case.
What the lawyer must review
You verify the law you put before the court. Model Rule 3.3(a)(1) says a lawyer shall not knowingly make a false statement of fact or law to a tribunal or fail to correct a false statement of material fact or law the lawyer previously made. Rule 3.3(a)(2) requires disclosure of legal authority in the controlling jurisdiction known to the lawyer to be directly adverse and not disclosed by opposing counsel. Formal Opinion 512 says some tools produce plausible responses that have no basis in fact or reality, and that reliance on tool output without an appropriate degree of independent verification can violate Rule 1.1. The tool compares the draft only with sources you supply. It does not fetch a new case, and it does not say a proposition is supported.

  2. Verify the applicable jurisdiction and the version of each relevant law, rule or instrument in force at the material time.
  3. Confirm the output against the client’s instructions and the complete relevant source material, including omissions or contradictions.
  4. Resolve exceptions and record the responsible lawyer’s approval of the exact output and intended use.
