Screen a character letter against the facts in the file
Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- For each factual sentence in the letter, record whether the file contains that fact. Flag a sentence with no source in the file. Do not say the letter was produced by a tool and do not rewrite it.
- What the lawyer must review
- You decide whether the letter is handed up. Model Rule 3.3 is the duty of candor. Formal Opinion 512 warns against relying on text you have not checked. Section 3553(a)(1) is the factor for the history and characteristics of the defendant. The letter is someone else's statement. You do not adopt a sentence the file does not support. No method of detecting generated text was opened, so the check does not label a letter as generated.
