- How AI is used
- List each character document the lawyer marks, the fact the lawyer says it supports, and the § 3553(a) factor the lawyer assigns. Do not write the submission.
- What the lawyer must review
- You write the submission. Section 3553(a) requires a sentence sufficient, but not greater than necessary, to comply with the purposes in paragraph (2). The court considers the nature and circumstances of the offense and the history and characteristics of the defendant, and the need for the sentence to reflect seriousness, promote respect for the law, provide just punishment, afford deterrence, protect the public, and provide needed training, care, or treatment. The court also considers the kinds of sentences available and the sentencing range in the guidelines. The Guidelines Manual was not opened, so this list does not compute a range or a reduction. Model Rule 3.3 is your duty of candor before anything is handed up. Formal Opinion 512 applies to the use of a tool on the file.
