List material for a federal sentencing submission
Key facts

- RedLawyer-led
- How AI is used
- Under each § 3553(a) factor the lawyer names, list the document the lawyer assigns. Do not write the submission and do not propose a sentence.
- What the lawyer must review
- You write the submission. Section 3553(a) requires a sentence sufficient, but not greater than necessary, for the purposes in paragraph (2). The court considers the offense and the defendant's history and characteristics, and the need for the sentence to reflect seriousness, promote respect for the law, provide just punishment, afford deterrence, protect the public, and provide needed training, care, or treatment. It also considers the kinds of sentences available and the guidelines range. The Guidelines Manual was not opened, so the list states no range and no reduction. Model Rule 3.3 applies to what you hand up. Formal Opinion 512 applies to the file.
