Total the time records for a class-counsel fee motion
Key facts
- Human involvement
- RedLawyer-led
- How AI is used
- Total the hours and the rates in the time records the lawyer marks, by timekeeper. Write no motion and state no proposed award.
- What the lawyer must review
- Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(h): in a certified class action the court may award reasonable attorney's fees and nontaxable costs that are authorized by law or by the parties' agreement. A claim for an award must be made by motion under Rule 54(d)(2), subject to Rule 23(h), at a time the court sets. Notice of the motion must be served on all parties and, for a motion by class counsel, directed to class members in a reasonable manner. A class member, or a party from whom payment is sought, may object. You open Rule 54 before the motion is filed. You decide what award to ask for. Do not use a percentage or a multiplier that Rule 23(h) does not state. You write the motion.
