Prepare an internal reading translation of exhibits
Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- For each exhibit the lawyer marks, produce a reading text in English and keep the original-language sentence beside it, with the exhibit number and page. Label the text as an unchecked reading aid.
- What the lawyer must review
- No statute opened for this version certifies a translation or makes a machine translation admissible. Model Rule 1.1 requires the competence reasonably necessary for the representation, which includes not treating an unchecked rendering as the exhibit. Formal Opinion 512: a generative tool can produce fluent text that is wrong. The lawyer, or a translator the lawyer retains, checks any sentence that will be used. Rule 1.6 keeps the exhibits in a confidential tool. A translation that will be lodged is not this reading aid.
