How AI is used
Match trust receipts to matters and list every amount that has no identified client or third person, with the date it was received.
What the lawyer must review
Model Rule 1.15(a) requires client and third-person property to be held separate from the lawyer's property, in a separate account in the state of the office unless the client or third person consents to another place, with complete records. Rule 1.15(d) requires prompt notice when funds are received in which a client or third person has an interest. Rule 1.15(e) requires property in which two or more persons claim an interest to be kept separate until the dispute is resolved. You decide what is unidentified and what the enacted state rule, including any unclaimed-property rule, requires you to do with it. The Model Rule's record-retention period is printed in brackets as five years. The state rule controls.
