Guide

Using AI at the Bar: a guide for Australian barristers

Research and drafting tools barristers compare, read against the practice note of the court they are appearing in. Not a ranking and not a brief to accept.

The court note travels with the brief

A barrister’s ethical rules and the court’s practice note both apply. SC Gen 23, SC Gen 25, GPN-AI and the other notes on this site ask different things about submissions, authorities and witness evidence. The note of the court you are in is the one to open.

Verification of a citation is the author’s work. The notes that deal with the point say a second generative tool does not count. A research profile on this site describes coverage. It does not check the pinpoint.

Questions

Which tools are listed for barristers?

Profiles in this catalogue used for research and drafting: the names in the table. A chambers subscription and a personal chatbot are different products. Read the profile’s plan scope.

Does a research tool replace checking the authority?

No. Open the case. Court notes that cover submissions require human verification, and several of them say one AI tool must not confirm another.

Where is Australian hosting and price?

In the table, from the published profile and the 10 October 2026 comparison and pricing records. Open the linked pricing page before you treat a figure as a quote.
