Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may list materials, classifications and the manufacturing steps the lawyer has marked; the lawyer decides the origin issue, signs Form B659, and chooses the lodgement address.
AI may
- Build a table of materials with description, tariff classification and country from the bill of materials the lawyer marks
- Check the draft names one agreement and one origin issue, and lists the applicant, importer, supplier and manufacturer
- Flag a missing signature or missing supporting documents
AI must not
- Must not say whether the goods originate
- Must not sign the form or choose between chafta@abf.gov.au and origin@abf.gov.au
- Must not put a second origin issue on the same application
The lawyer checks
- One agreement and one origin issue, unless the origin-advice page allows a transhipment question to cover more than one classification
- China-Australia agreement applications go to chafta@abf.gov.au. Other applications go to origin@abf.gov.au
- The applicant signs. Previous tariff, origin or valuation rulings are disclosed if the form asks
- Supporting documents are attached before the application is treated as complete
