When to use it

Use for a reporting entity with consolidated revenue of at least $100 million (or a voluntary reporter) preparing its annual statement, or for a parent preparing a joint statement for group entities. Start from last year's statement and the supplier risk record; the template forces each criterion to be answered with this year's facts.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

AI may draft each section from last year's statement, the supplier list and the risk and remediation record; a lawyer checks every factual statement against the evidence and confirms the approval and signing steps before lodgement.

AI may

  • Map last year's statement to the s 16 criteria and list what must be updated for this reporting period
  • Draft descriptions of structure, operations and supply chains from the entity list, procurement categories and supplier country data supplied
  • Summarise the risk assessment and remediation record into the actions and effectiveness sections, citing each source document

AI must not

  • Must not describe any due diligence, audit, training, remediation or consultation that the records do not show happened in this reporting period
  • Must not assert that no modern slavery was found or that risks are low without the underlying assessment
  • Must not settle the approval details, the responsible member or which entities a joint statement covers

The lawyer checks

  • Every reporting entity covered is identified, and for a joint statement each was consulted and the s 14(2)(d) approval route is correct
  • Each s 16(1) criterion is answered for each reporting entity, including entities it owns or controls
  • Statements of actions and effectiveness are supported by records from this reporting period and are not carried over unchanged
  • Approval by the principal governing body is recorded with its date, the signatory is a responsible member, and lodgement is diarised within 6 months after the period ends
