Compare a quoted legislative passage in a know-how note with the in-force section

How AI is used
Place the passage the note quotes beside the in-force section text the lawyer has supplied, and mark each word that differs. Do not rewrite the note and do not say whether the difference changes the advice.
What the lawyer must review
The lawyer decides whether the note is still right and rewrites it before it is published or sent. The comparison uses the consolidation the lawyer has opened. Section text moves. A note that states the pre-contractual insurance duty, for example, has to be read against section 11AB, section 20A, section 20B and section 21 of the Insurance Contracts Act 1984, and the lawyer confirms from the current compilation which duty applies. The same method applies to any other Act the note cites.

Checklist

  1. Compare the quote with the consolidation the lawyer opened, not with the note's own citation.
  2. Record the compilation or the AustLII consolidation date on the note before it is published.
  3. A word change in a duty, a definition or a time limit is brought to the lawyer even if the section number is unchanged.
  4. The tool does not publish the note and does not send it to a client.
