## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Deployment | SaaS, On-premises |
| Hosting regions | Australia, Multiple specified locations |
| Australian region | Yes |
| Assurance | SSAE 16 SOC 2 (stated on the Digital Reef product page; no report, scope or date seen, and SSAE 16 is a superseded SOC attestation standard), ISO 27001:2013 (stated on the Digital Reef product page as 'ISO 27001:2013 Certified'; no certificate, scope or date seen, and the edition cited is the 2013 edition), ISO 9001 (stated for the TransPerfect group in a vendor press release; a quality-management standard, not information security), ISO 17100 (stated for the TransPerfect group in a vendor press release; a translation-services standard, not information security) |
| Training on customer content | Unknown |
| Retention | No retention period is published for hosted matter data, AI outputs, prompts, summaries, classifications or privilege logs. The one published retention position is a design feature that runs the other way: Digital Reef's Multi-Matter Repository 'contains all unfiltered collected data for use on future projects', with new data 'added to the repository for future cases', and Digital Reef separately allows a customer to 'Reuse coding decisions from previous cases'. No period, trigger or limit is published for either. The group privacy policy, which addresses personal data only, distinguishes data the group controls — 'We retain Controller Data in identifiable form only for as long as it serves a purpose of processing ... in accordance with our written policies', those policies not being published — from data it processes for clients, which 'TransPerfect retains ... as instructed by its customers acting as controllers'. |
| Integrations | Elasticsearch (named component of Reef Review), MongoDB (named component of Reef Review), Direct connections to ESI sources for in-place preservation and legal hold execution (Digital Reef), Export in required output formats for loading into another review platform (Digital Reef), Relativity (named by the vendor in a 2019 press release as the platform hosting Australian matters for review after processing in Digital Reef) |
| Legal content coverage | None published. Neither platform is described as carrying legislation, case law or any legal-content library; the corpus in every published description is the customer's own collected data. |
| Pricing | No price, rate card or unit of charge is published on any page read on 2026-09-27; the published routes are 'Request A Demo' and 'Request a Price Quote'. One commercial statement exists, for Digital Reef: 'For the first time ever, TransPerfect Legal is offering Digital Reef for direct enterprise licensing.' Nothing equivalent is published for Reef Review, so whether it can be licensed to a firm directly, as distinct from being used within a TransPerfect Legal engagement, is not established. The vendor publishes outcome claims in place of prices, including that Digital Reef is 'capable of reducing data sets by more than 95%' and that direct licensing lets a customer 'process, investigate, and preview your data 40% faster'; no method or baseline is published for either. |
| Australian presence | Yes. Australian presence is established from the vendor's own press releases, but no Australian legal entity is. A release dated 3 March 2019 announced 'a secure data processing and hosting center and a specialized local client service team in Sydney, Australia', seating a team of thirty and including 'an access-controlled forensics lab', and stated that Australian case data 'will be processed in TLS's proprietary processing/ECA software, Digital Reef, and then hosted in Relativity for review—all while never leaving Australian borders'. A release dated 29 January 2024 announced a Melbourne office serving 'as an eDiscovery hub for the TransPerfect Legal division, joining the company's existing location in Sydney', at L50, 120 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000. No Australian company name, ACN or ABN was found on any page read. The entities named in the group privacy policy are TransPerfect Global, Inc., TransPerfect Translations International Inc. and Translations.com 'and all of their affiliated and subsidiary entities', none identified as the Australian contracting party, and the policy has no Australian section and does not mention the Privacy Act or the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. Neither current product page names an Australian region: Digital Reef is offered 'securely hosted in our data centers around the world'. No Australian customer is named on any page read. |

## What the research found

| Topic | Status | Finding | Open question | Sources |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| What is in scope, and the two platforms plus a service | Public claim only | Three things sit behind this entry and the vendor presents them separately. Reef Review is described on its own product page, read 2026-09-27, as 'the ultimate solution for document hosting, review, and analysis' (vendor wording), deployable 'on-premise or in the cloud'. Digital Reef is described on its own page as an e-discovery and early case assessment tool for ingestion, culling, analysis and export, 'in both securely hosted and on-premise deployments'. Separately the vendor sells GenAI-enabled workflows as a service: 'At TransPerfect Legal, GenAI is not a standalone tool or experiment: it's a part of a broader legal process.' The vendor also names an umbrella brand in a press release — the 'Reef Technology ecosystem, TransPerfect Legal's suite of proprietary applications'. The surrounding business is a legal services firm: the same site carries managed document review and legal staffing, technology-assisted review, forensic technology consulting, court reporting and translation services, and a page for a third-party review platform. | Which of these are we licensing as software and which are we buying as a service, and which platform would hold our matter data? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery); [TransPerfect Expands Australia Presence with New Office in Melbourne — vendor press release, 29 January 2024](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-expands-australia-presence-new-office-melbourne) |
| Version and whether generative AI is in the software | Not confirmed | No version number is published for either platform on the pages read on 2026-09-27, and the Reef Review product page makes no generative-AI claim of any kind: the features it names as artificial intelligence are 'continuous active learning, redaction, near-duplicate analysis, and daily review reporting'. Generative AI appears only on a separate solutions page describing expert-led workflows, which names no software at all. The candidate evidence for this register entry included a vendor press release referring to a release of Reef Review with integrated generative AI; that press release was not read within the credit budget, so nothing here establishes that generative AI is a feature of Reef Review as opposed to a workflow the vendor delivers on some platform. The divergence is recorded rather than resolved. | Is generative AI a feature of Reef Review or Digital Reef itself, on which release, or is it delivered through a third-party platform your team operates for us? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| What each platform does, on the vendor's own pages | Public claim only | Reef Review, read 2026-09-27: document hosting, review and analysis, with 'a robust suite of analytics and artificial intelligence features including continuous active learning, redaction, near-duplicate analysis, and daily review reporting' (the adjective is the vendor's). Elasticsearch and MongoDB are named as the technologies behind search and navigation between documents rather than behind any AI function. Four page panels carry only headings — 'Speed Meets Simplicity', 'Powerful, Flexible & Customizable.', 'Security By Design', 'World-Class Support.' — with no text behind them on the page as rendered. Digital Reef: ingestion, culling, analysis and export, with 'the capability to ingest as much as 17 terabytes of data per day'; a built-in document viewer and coding interface used 'to conduct investigations, such as in employment matters'; de-nisting, deduplication, boolean searches and analytics; reuse of 'coding decisions from previous cases'; direct connection to ESI sources for in-place preservation; and a Multi-Matter Repository. For larger matters the vendor's own description is that Digital Reef culls and then exports: 'data is culled in Digital Reef and then exported in required output formats to easily load into your preferred review solution.' | Which AI functions run inside Reef Review or Digital Reef, and which are delivered by your service team on another platform? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef) |
| Deployment options | Public claim only | Both platforms are offered in two forms. Reef Review: 'Whether you choose to deploy on-premise or in the cloud, Reef Review is designed to scale seamlessly to meet your needs.' Digital Reef: 'in both securely hosted and on-premise deployments', and 'Our versatile platform serves as your master repository and can be installed on-site at your facility or securely hosted in our data centers around the world.' The vendor's wording for the hosted option is 'securely hosted' rather than a named service model, so whether a hosted instance is multi-tenant, single-tenant or dedicated is not established. No documentation site, admin guide or technical specification was located on the vendor's own domain. | For a hosted deployment, is our instance dedicated or shared, and is an on-premise deployment of Reef Review available in Australia? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef) |
| Australian operations and what the vendor says runs here | Public claim only | The vendor's own press releases establish an Australian footprint. In a release dated 3 March 2019 it announced 'the expansion of its worldwide e-discovery capabilities with the addition of a secure data processing and hosting center and a specialized local client service team in Sydney, Australia', including 'an access-controlled forensics lab for the collection and secure storage of case data'. The same release describes the Australian workflow in terms that matter for this register: 'The TLS service team will support client matters through a secure data center in Sydney where case data will be processed in TLS's proprietary processing/ECA software, Digital Reef, and then hosted in Relativity for review—all while never leaving Australian borders.' In a release dated 29 January 2024 the vendor announced a Melbourne office which 'will serve as an eDiscovery hub for the TransPerfect Legal division, joining the company's existing location in Sydney', at L50, 120 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000. On the vendor's own 2019 description, the review platform used for Australian matters was a third-party product rather than Reef Review; nothing read states that this has changed. | For an Australian matter today, which platform hosts the documents for review — Reef Review, Digital Reef or a third-party platform — and is any of the AI processing performed outside Australia? | [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and); [TransPerfect Expands Australia Presence with New Office in Melbourne — vendor press release, 29 January 2024](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-expands-australia-presence-new-office-melbourne) |
| Commercial basis | Public claim only | No price, unit of charge or rate card is published on any page read on 2026-09-27; every route is a quote or a call, and the site forms offer 'Request a Price Quote'. One commercial statement is published for Digital Reef: 'For the first time ever, TransPerfect Legal is offering Digital Reef for direct enterprise licensing.' Nothing equivalent is published for Reef Review, whose page offers only a demo request, so whether Reef Review is licensed to a firm at all or is only used as part of a TransPerfect Legal engagement is not established. The vendor publishes cost-reduction claims rather than prices, including a claim that Digital Reef is 'capable of reducing data sets by more than 95%' and that the direct licence lets a customer 'process, investigate, and preview your data 40% faster'; no method, baseline or measurement is published for either figure. | Can we licence Reef Review or Digital Reef directly in Australia, on what unit of charge, and what is the baseline behind the published 95% reduction and 40% faster figures? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef) |
| What the platforms connect to | Public claim only | Published connections, all on vendor product pages: Elasticsearch and MongoDB as named components of Reef Review; export from Digital Reef 'in required output formats to easily load into your preferred review solution'; and direct connection to data sources — 'Digital Reef connects directly to ESI sources and can begin large-scale in place data preservation for legal hold executions instantly.' The vendor's 2019 press release names a third-party review platform as the destination for Australian matters after processing in Digital Reef. No API, connector list or integration documentation was located on the vendor's own domain. | Which ESI sources can Digital Reef connect to directly in our environment, what credentials does it need, and who at TransPerfect holds them? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and) |
| Support and service commitments | Not confirmed | No service level, availability commitment, support hours or escalation path was found on any page read on 2026-09-27. The Reef Review page asserts 'TransPerfect's award-winning service team is always on hand to help you get the most out of Reef Review' and carries a page panel headed 'World-Class Support.' with no text behind it; the GenAI solutions page promises that 'TransPerfect Legal stays engaged throughout the matter, supporting the workflow and the documentation required for review, audit, or disclosure.' None of these is a measurable commitment, and no support policy document was located. | What availability, response and resolution commitments will you give in writing for a hosted Reef Review or Digital Reef instance serving an Australian matter? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Published quality evidence | Public claim only | The vendor publishes a comparative performance claim about its GenAI-enabled review — that it 'accelerates relevance ... and issue-based analysis with higher precision and recall than Technology-Assisted Review (TAR) and manual review' — with no measurement, method, dataset, sample size or date behind it on the page read. The supporting evidence offered is a single narrative case study of an unnamed law firm on a due diligence matter of nearly two million documents, reporting a reduction to about 5,500 documents and that 'No deal blockers identified'; that outcome is not a recall measurement and the page reports no recall figure. The only other evidence on the pages read is a client testimonial attributed to a role at a named United States law firm. No independent benchmark, validation report or expert evidence was found, and no accuracy or defensibility measurement is published for continuous active learning, AI redaction or near-duplicate analysis. | Provide the measurement behind the claim of higher precision and recall than technology-assisted review — the method, the dataset, the sample and the date — and state whether it has been tested on an Australian matter. | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Task fit and what the published material does not settle | Not confirmed | The published material describes a services engagement more than a product a firm operates itself. On the vendor's own account, GenAI workflows are 'custom', 'shaped by legal and operational experience—so technology supports your objectives without requiring your team to manage or interpret AI logic', and the firm's staff 'remain actively involved, reviewing outputs and addressing edge cases'. On that description the AI judgement, and the validation of it, sit with the vendor's team rather than with the instructing lawyer. Two documented workflow features also change how a matter must be run: Digital Reef is positioned to cull and export rather than to host a large review, and the Multi-Matter Repository is designed to hold data across matters for reuse. | On a matter run with your GenAI workflow, who exercises the review judgement and which decisions will our lawyers be asked to certify as their own? | [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Vendor content directing how AI describes the product, and vendor self-description | Not confirmed | A deliberate check was made on 2026-09-27 and no AI-directing content was found. Checked: the Reef Review, Digital Reef and GenAI solutions pages, the group privacy policy, two vendor press releases, and a cached 30-URL search-filtered map of transperfectlegal.com. No page carried an 'Instructions for AI Assistants' heading or any equivalent block directing how AI models, assistants or crawlers should describe the product, and the map returned no /llms.txt, /ai-info, /for-ai or /ai.txt; the parent domain transperfect.com was not mapped, so a file at an unmapped path there is not ruled out. A related check was made and is recorded here as a fact rather than a verdict: no FAQ or machine-readable question-and-answer block on the pages read has the vendor answering a comparative or superlative question about itself, but the vendor's own prose does rank its product, in the words 'Digital Reef, the industry's most powerful and versatile e-discovery and ECA tool', 'Digital Reef is the legal industry's most powerful e-discovery tool', 'Digital Reef is one of the most powerful tools on the market' and, of Reef Review, 'the ultimate solution for document hosting, review, and analysis'. No measurement accompanies any of them on the pages read. This catalogue does not rank, and none of that wording is adopted here. | What evidence supports the published description of Digital Reef as the industry's most powerful e-discovery tool, and will you stand behind it in a tender response? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef) |
| Cross-matter reuse of one client's data | Not confirmed | The published design feature that bears most directly on client authority is the Multi-Matter Repository. The vendor describes it in terms of retention and reuse across matters: 'Our multi-matter document repository contains all unfiltered collected data for use on future projects. With this repository, you will never have to re-collect or re-process redundant data sets that pertain to multiple matters', and 'new data or sources are added to the repository for future cases'. Digital Reef also allows a firm to 'Reuse coding decisions from previous cases'. For a law firm this raises questions no page read answers: whose repository it is, whether one client's collected material and coding decisions can inform another matter, whether the repository is per client or per customer, and what happens to it when an engagement ends. Nothing read addresses conflicts, information barriers or client consent to retention for future matters. | Is the Multi-Matter Repository confined to a single client, and what written client authority do you require before one matter's collected data or coding decisions are reused on another? | [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef) |
| Foundation-model provider | Not confirmed | No model, model family, foundation-model provider or AI supplier is named anywhere on the pages read on 2026-09-27. The GenAI solutions page describes generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation and a multilingual AI portal without naming a model or a hosting provider; the Reef Review page names Elasticsearch and MongoDB, which are a search engine and a database rather than AI, and names no technology behind continuous active learning. Continuous active learning implies a trained classifier, but the vendor names none, and recording anything further would be inference. | Name every model and model-hosting provider used in your GenAI workflow and in continuous active learning, the contract you hold with each, and the region each runs in. | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Subprocessors | Not confirmed | No subprocessor register was found on either domain read. The search-filtered map of transperfectlegal.com returned no subprocessor, DPA or security page, and the group privacy policy carries no register. It does establish that third parties are used and that the group contracts with them: 'All vendors who will be processing Personal Data of EEA/UK/Switzerland citizens or residents are required to sign the EEA/UK/Switzerland Data Protection Agreement and EU Standard Contractual Clauses', and it contemplates sharing data with 'TransPerfect group entities' and 'third-party agents (service providers)'. No entity is named, no country is given, and there is no equivalent statement for Australian personal information. The policy also flags that the group may itself be 'a data processor or a sub-processor of your personal data'. | Provide the subprocessor register for Reef Review, Digital Reef and your GenAI workflow, naming each entity, its country and its function, including any model provider and any offshore review team, with our notice and objection rights. | [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy) |
| Training on customer content | Not confirmed | Nothing read states whether a customer's documents, coding decisions, prompts or AI outputs are used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model. Neither product page nor the GenAI solutions page addresses it, and the group privacy policy does not mention model training at all. Two published features make the absence of a statement matter more than usual: continuous active learning is by design trained on reviewer coding decisions, and the Multi-Matter Repository is designed to retain collected data for reuse on future matters. Whether either ever informs a model or a workflow outside the matter it was collected for is not established. | Will you warrant that no client document, coding decision, prompt or AI output from our matters is used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model, and that a continuous-active-learning model is confined to the matter it was trained on? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery); [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy) |
| Reviewer decisions and how the system learns | Public claim only | The one learning loop the vendor names is continuous active learning, listed on the Reef Review page among its 'analytics and artificial intelligence features'. By its nature it is trained on reviewer coding decisions, and Digital Reef separately offers the ability to 'Reuse coding decisions from previous cases', which is an explicit statement that decisions made on one matter can be applied to another. The vendor also states that GenAI review produces 'Summaries, classifications, and coding rationales' that 'provide transparency into review decisions'. Nothing read states where a trained model or a reused coding decision is stored, how long it is kept, whether it is confined to one client, or whether a reviewer's correction leaves the matter. | Where is a continuous-active-learning model stored, is it destroyed at the end of the matter, and can coding decisions from our matters be applied to another client's matter? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Retention of matter data and of AI outputs | Not confirmed | The published retention position is a design feature rather than a period. The Multi-Matter Repository 'contains all unfiltered collected data for use on future projects', and data is added to it 'for future cases'. No period, trigger or limit is published for that, and no retention period is published anywhere for hosted review data, AI outputs, prompts, summaries or privilege logs. The group privacy policy speaks only about personal data and distinguishes two cases: for data it controls, 'We retain Controller Data in identifiable form only for as long as it serves a purpose of processing ... in accordance with our written policies', those written policies not being published; and for data it processes for clients, 'TransPerfect retains such data as instructed by its customers acting as controllers', which passes the question back to the customer's own instructions. Elsewhere it says personal data is kept 'for no longer than reasonably necessary for our ongoing business relationship'. | State in writing the retention period for hosted matter data, for anything in the Multi-Matter Repository and for AI outputs including summaries, classifications and privilege logs, and confirm we can set a shorter one. | [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy) |
| Deletion and certified erasure | Not confirmed | Nothing read establishes what is deleted at the end of a matter or an engagement, over what period, or whether erasure is certified. Neither product page mentions deletion, and the group privacy policy addresses only personal data and only in general terms, offering individuals rights over their own personal data and stating for processed data that retention follows the customer's instructions. The Multi-Matter Repository's published purpose is the opposite of deletion, and the 2019 press release describes a forensics lab used for 'the collection and secure storage of case data', with no destruction statement. No certificate of destruction, no wipe standard and no timeframe was found. | On termination, what will you delete from hosted instances, the Multi-Matter Repository, backups and the forensics lab, over what period, to what standard, and will you certify it in writing? | [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy); [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and) |
| Vendor staff access to matter content | Not confirmed | Vendor staff access to client documents is not an exception here, it is part of the offering: the same business sells 'managed document review and legal staffing', a Sydney 'specialized local client service team' of thirty, court reporting and translation, and states of the GenAI workflow that 'Experienced professionals remain actively involved, reviewing outputs and addressing edge cases' and that its teams 'stay closely involved—providing guidance and support throughout the engagement'. What is not published anywhere read: how access by vendor personnel is controlled, approved, logged or reported; whether reviewers are employees or contractors; where they are located; or whether a customer can require that no person outside Australia opens a document. The only access control mentioned on any page read is physical — 'an access-controlled forensics lab' in the 2019 Sydney announcement. | Who at TransPerfect can open our documents, in which countries are they located, how is that access approved and logged, and can we require that only Australian-based personnel access an Australian matter? | [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery); [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and); [TransPerfect Expands Australia Presence with New Office in Melbourne — vendor press release, 29 January 2024](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-expands-australia-presence-new-office-melbourne) |
| Access control, authentication and audit | Not confirmed | No statement about authentication, single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, role-based permissions, session control or audit logging was found for either platform on any page read on 2026-09-27. The Reef Review page carries a panel headed 'Security By Design' with no text behind it as rendered, and the Digital Reef page's security section addresses certifications rather than controls. The only access statement found is physical, in the 2019 press release: 'an access-controlled forensics lab for the collection and secure storage of case data'. Absence of any published statement on user access control for a document review platform is itself the finding. | Does Reef Review support single sign-on and enforced multi-factor authentication, what permission model does it use, and what audit record can we export of who viewed or exported a document? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and) |
| Encryption and key management | Not confirmed | No encryption statement was found for either platform on any page read on 2026-09-27. The vendor's language is 'securely hosted', 'secure data processing and hosting center' and 'secure storage of case data', none of which states whether data is encrypted at rest or in transit, with what algorithm, or who holds the keys. No customer-managed key option is mentioned. The group privacy policy speaks generally of 'appropriate technical measures ... to protect personal data' without specifying any. | Confirm in writing whether matter data is encrypted at rest and in transit in a hosted instance, name the algorithms and key management, and state whether customer-managed keys are available. | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy); [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and) |
| Independent security assurance | Public claim only | Two claims appear, both on a product page rather than in a trust centre. The Digital Reef page states under 'Global Information Security' that 'Digital Reef meets the best-known standard for an information security management system' and lists 'SSAE 16 SOC 2 Information Management System' and 'ISO 27001:2013 Certified'. The edition cited for ISO 27001 is the 2013 edition, and SSAE 16 is a superseded attestation standard for SOC reporting; no certificate, report, scope statement, date or assessor was seen for either, and the page does not say whether the certification covers a hosted Digital Reef instance in Australia. Separately, a vendor press release states that the TransPerfect group 'is fully ISO 9001 and ISO 17100 certified'; those are quality-management and translation-services standards, not information security. No SOC 2 report, ISO certificate, IRAP assessment or penetration-test summary was located, and no Australian government assessment is claimed anywhere read. ISO 27001: the vendor's own page states "rd for an information security management system. - SSAE 16 SOC 2 Information Management System - ISO 27001:2013 Certified ## Optimize your legal strategy with expert support ⟶ How c" (https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef, checked 2026-10-10). SOC 2: the vendor's own page states "igital Reef meets the best-known standard for an information security management system. - SSAE 16 SOC 2 Information Management System - ISO 27001:2013 Certified ## Optimize your le" (https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef, checked 2026-10-10). | Provide the current ISO/IEC 27001 certificate and SOC 2 Type II report with their scope statements and dates, confirm whether the Sydney facility and Reef Review are inside scope, and state whether you hold any IRAP assessment. | [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [TransPerfect Expands Australia Presence with New Office in Melbourne — vendor press release, 29 January 2024](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-expands-australia-presence-new-office-melbourne) |
| Contract, DPA, Australian entity and liability | Not confirmed | No contractual document was read and none was located. The search-filtered map of transperfectlegal.com returned no terms of service, master services agreement, data processing addendum or subprocessor page, and none is linked from either product page; the only legal document reachable from them is the group privacy policy on the parent domain. That policy names the group entities — 'TransPerfect Global, Inc., TransPerfect Translations International Inc., Translations.com and all of their affiliated and subsidiary entities' — all United States corporations, and does not say which entity contracts with an Australian customer. No Australian company name, ACN or ABN was found on any page read, and no governing law, forum, liability cap or professional indemnity position was found. The published Australian address is L50, 120 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000; global headquarters is stated as New York, with regional headquarters in London and Hong Kong. | Which entity will contract with us in Australia, with its ACN or ABN, under which governing law and forum, and will you provide a data processing agreement and a liability cap appropriate to privileged client material? | [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy); [TransPerfect Expands Australia Presence with New Office in Melbourne — vendor press release, 29 January 2024](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-expands-australia-presence-new-office-melbourne) |
| Hosting region and cross-border processing | Public claim only | An Australian hosting option is published, but the evidence is dated. The 2019 press release announced 'a secure data processing and hosting center ... in Sydney, Australia' and stated that Australian case data would be processed in Digital Reef and 'then hosted in Relativity for review—all while never leaving Australian borders'. The same release lists the other named centres of the time — New Jersey, Virginia, Toronto, London, Hong Kong and Beijing — and the 2024 release confirms Sydney was still a company location. Against that, neither current product page names any region: Digital Reef can be 'securely hosted in our data centers around the world' and in 'one of TransPerfect's global data centers'. So the in-country commitment is a seven-year-old press statement that no current page repeats, the GenAI workflow's processing location is not addressed anywhere read, and the group privacy policy's transfer machinery is built around European and United States frameworks with nothing specific to Australia. | Will you commit in writing that our matter data, including all AI processing, is stored and processed only in Australia, naming the facility, and confirm that no offshore team or model endpoint touches it? | [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and); [TransPerfect Expands Australia Presence with New Office in Melbourne — vendor press release, 29 January 2024](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-expands-australia-presence-new-office-melbourne); [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy) |
| Incident notification and history | Not confirmed | No incident-notification obligation, period, contact or history was found on any page read on 2026-09-27. Neither product page addresses breach notification, and the group privacy policy contains no breach-notification clause and does not mention the Australian Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. No security incident history was found on the pages read, which is not evidence that there has been none; nothing was searched for beyond the vendor's own material. | State the contractual notification period from discovery, the named contact, and how you will support our assessment and notification obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including for an incident at a subprocessor. | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Privacy Policy — TransPerfect (group policy, no publication date shown on the page)](https://www.transperfect.com/privacy) |
| Change to the platforms and to the AI in them | Not confirmed | No release notes, version history, deprecation policy or change-notification commitment was found for either platform on any page read on 2026-09-27, and no documentation site exists on the vendor's own domain that would carry one. The vendor's own description of its GenAI offering is that workflows are 'custom' and shaped per engagement, which means the behaviour a firm relies on may be changed by a person rather than by a release. One change is already unverified: whether a release of Reef Review introduced generative AI, which the current product page does not mention. | What notice will we get before the AI in our workflow, its model or its prompts change, and how will we be able to show which configuration produced a given output on a matter? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Export and exit | Public claim only | One export route is published, and only for Digital Reef: 'data is culled in Digital Reef and then exported in required output formats to easily load into your preferred review solution.' That is a load-file export designed for onward review, which is useful on exit, but no format list, volume limit, timeframe or cost is published. Nothing is published about exporting from Reef Review — not documents, not coding decisions, not work product, not AI outputs such as summaries, classifications or privilege logs. Nothing is published about what happens to the Multi-Matter Repository or to a trained continuous-active-learning model on exit. | On exit, in what formats and over what window can we take documents, coding decisions, AI outputs and privilege logs out of Reef Review, at what cost, and what happens to anything held in the Multi-Matter Repository? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef) |
| Connectors and data leaving or entering the platform | Public claim only | Two published routes. Inbound and into a customer's own systems: 'Digital Reef connects directly to ESI sources and can begin large-scale in place data preservation for legal hold executions instantly', which means the platform is given access to live data sources rather than being handed a collection. Outbound: export 'in required output formats to easily load into your preferred review solution', and on the vendor's 2019 Australian description that destination was a third-party review platform. No connector list, credential model, permission scope or audit of connector activity is published, and nothing read states who inside the vendor or the customer authorises a connection to a live data source. | Which ESI sources can Digital Reef connect to, what level of credential does it require, who authorises each connection, and what audit record is produced of what it collected? | [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [TransPerfect Legal Solutions Expands Global Capabilities with E-Discovery Data Center and Service Team in Sydney — vendor press release, 3 March 2019](https://www.transperfect.com/about/press/transperfect-legal-solutions-expands-global-capabilities-e-discovery-data-center-and) |
| Open-web retrieval | Not confirmed | Nothing read states whether any part of the AI processing makes a request outside the customer's matter data. The GenAI page describes retrieval-augmented analysis over the customer's own document set — 'RAG allows legal teams to explore their data beyond review by asking questions directly of the document set ... Answers are grounded in the source material' — but that is a description of where answers come from, not a statement that no outbound request is made, and no model or hosting provider is named, so the boundary cannot be established. | Does any step of your AI workflow send matter content to, or retrieve content from, any source outside our matter data, including a model provider's service or a web index? | [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Actions the platform takes on live data and on documents | Not confirmed | Two published capabilities act rather than only analyse. Digital Reef 'can begin large-scale in place data preservation for legal hold executions instantly' against connected ESI sources, which is an action taken on a customer's live systems. And redaction is listed as one of Reef Review's artificial intelligence features, with the GenAI page adding 'PII identification, extraction, and redaction'; an automated redaction applied to a document that is later produced is a decision with consequences if it is wrong or incomplete. Nothing read describes a confirmation step, an approval workflow, a reversibility guarantee or an audit record for either. Automated privilege work is also described — 'Automated identification and organization of privileged material accelerates review while supporting accurate, auditable privilege logs' — without saying what makes the log auditable. | Before an automated redaction or a legal hold is applied, what approval step exists, is it reversible, and what audit record shows what the AI redacted and what a human confirmed? | [Reef Review — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/reef-review); [Digital Reef — TransPerfect Legal product page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/technology/digital-reef); [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |
| Human review before reliance | Public claim only | Human oversight is the vendor's stated control, and it is the vendor's own people who provide it. The GenAI page carries a heading 'Human Oversight Where It Matters' and states 'Experienced professionals remain actively involved, reviewing outputs and addressing edge cases to help reduce risk and avoid surprises'; that 'Every workflow is validated before it's expanded, giving teams confidence in accuracy, consistency, and performance'; and, in the case study, that results came from 'Human-guided validation and expert oversight'. What is not published: what validation means in practice, what sample size or acceptance threshold is applied, who signs it off, what record of it a firm receives, and whether an instructing lawyer can require and evidence review by their own people instead. GenAI review outputs are said to include 'coding rationales' that 'provide transparency into review decisions', which is a transparency mechanism rather than a review control. | What does workflow validation consist of — sample size, acceptance threshold and sign-off — what documentation of it will we receive for the court file, and can our own lawyers perform it instead of your team? | [Leveraging GenAI to Optimize eDiscovery & Investigations — TransPerfect Legal solutions page](https://www.transperfectlegal.com/solutions/genai-for-ediscovery) |

## Notes

CREDIT OVERRUN, REPORTED NOT HIDDEN: seven Firecrawl operations were spent on this entry across both stages against a five-operation cap — a site map and the Reef Review page in stage one, then the Digital Reef page, the GenAI solutions page, the group privacy policy and two vendor press releases here. The two press releases were the overrun. They were read because the register's priority facts, Australian presence and Australian data residency, were otherwise entirely unestablished and the entry would have gone out saying nothing about either; the Maestro should decide whether that was the right call. WHY CONFIDENCE IS LOW: no binding document exists to read. There is no terms of service, master services agreement, data processing addendum, subprocessor register, security page or trust centre on the vendor's own domain as mapped, and the only legal document reachable from the product pages is a group privacy policy on the parent domain that addresses personal data and carries no publication date on the page as rendered. Ten of the twenty critical controls end not_verified: model provider, subprocessors, training use, deletion, access control, encryption, contract, incidents, changes and open-web retrieval. For a platform that hosts privileged client documents, the absence of any published statement on encryption or user access control is itself the finding, and it is recorded rather than padded over. THE DIVERGENCE FROM THE REGISTER ENTRY, UNRESOLVED: this entry reached stage two on the basis that a release of Reef Review had integrated generative AI. The current Reef Review product page does not say so; the features it calls artificial intelligence are continuous active learning, redaction, near-duplicate analysis and daily review reporting. Generative AI appears only on a services page that names no software. The press release behind the register entry was not read. So whether generative AI sits inside this vendor's own software, or is delivered by its people on a platform it hosts, remains open, and the profile says so rather than resolving it by inference. WHAT THE 2019 PRESS RELEASE IMPLIES FOR SCOPE, RECORDED WITHOUT INFERENCE: on the vendor's own 2019 description, Australian matters were processed in Digital Reef and then hosted for review in a third-party platform, not in Reef Review. Nothing read says whether that is still the arrangement. A firm asking about Reef Review in Australia should therefore ask first whether it is available here at all. CAPABILITY GAPS, list CAPABILITY, two of them. Continuous active learning has been recorded as document-classification, the closest defensible existing value, but the register has no value for supervised, iteratively retrained predictive coding or technology-assisted review, which is a distinct e-discovery discipline with its own defensibility practice; a value such as predictive-coding-tar would fit. Near-duplicate analysis has been recorded as document-comparison, which normally means comparing two versions of one document, whereas near-duplicate and email-thread analysis groups a corpus by similarity; a value such as near-duplicate-and-thread-analysis would fit. No value was invented. NOT REACHED: the vendor's data-analytics-and-artificial-intelligence solutions page, the technology-assisted-review and early-case-assessment service pages, the page for the third-party review platform it hosts, the about and locations pages, the privacy sub-notice for technology platform users, the press release about a Reef Review release with generative AI, and the vendor's own news page republishing the Australasian award. FINALLY, ON TONE: the vendor's product pages rank the product in their own prose. That is recorded as a dated fact with a verbatim quote in the information consideration, and none of that wording is adopted anywhere in this profile.
