## When to use it

Use while administering a deceased estate in New South Wales, after the assets and debts have been listed and before a distribution. It does not replace a notice of intended distribution or a grant.

## How AI may be used

AI may build the ledger from bank statements and invoices the executor has supplied; the practitioner decides what is a debt of the estate and whether it is safe to distribute.

**AI may:**

- Enter receipts, expenses and assets from documents the executor has provided
- List the six-month period, the 30-day notice period, and the legacy-interest rate in the words of the pages that were read
- Flag an asset the NSW guide says is generally outside the estate, such as a joint asset or a superannuation death benefit

**AI must not:**

- Must not draft an affidavit verifying estate accounts
- Must not decide that a family provision claim is out of time, or advise a person to bring or not bring one
- Must not state a commission entitlement; Legal Aid NSW has a heading on commission and the rule was not taken from that page

**The lawyer checks:**

- Every debt, including tax, is in the ledger before a distribution is proposed
- The six-month period from death, and any notice of intended distribution, has been applied as those two NSW pages state
- Jointly held assets, trust assets, superannuation and life insurance are not treated as estate assets unless the document says they are paid to the estate
- A legacy unpaid 12 months after death is checked against the interest Legal Aid NSW describes
