## When to use it

## How AI may be used

AI may lay out the statement from a ledger export. A principal checks every figure against the trust ledger before the statement is sent.

**AI may:**

- Turn a supplied ledger export into the receipt and payment lines below
- Flag a ledger that had a transaction in the year and has not had a statement since 30 June

**AI must not:**

- Must not round, estimate or reconstruct a figure that is not in the export
- Must not send the statement
- Must not omit a payment because it was a costs transfer

**The lawyer checks:**

- Opening balance, each line and the closing balance match the trust ledger
- A statement is due under rule 52(4), and neither rule 52(5) nor a rule 53 direction removes the duty
- A copy is kept with the trust records
