## When to use it

Use when a section 29 notice states that the government party considers a future act (usually an exploration or prospecting tenement) attracts the expedited procedure and a native title party wants to object. Do not use where the notice already triggers the right to negotiate.

## How AI may be used

AI may build a notice diary and draft a statement of contentions from facts the lawyer and native title party have approved. Deadlines are calculated and diarised by a person, and evidence about sites and community activities is gathered and checked with the right people.

**AI may:**

- Extract notice dates, tenement details and the notification day from s 29 notices into a diary for checking
- Draft the statement of contentions against the three s 237 limbs from approved facts
- Prepare a list of evidence needed for each limb

**AI must not:**

- Must not be the only means of calculating or diarising the four-month objection deadline
- Must not process information about sacred or restricted sites
- Must not draft witness evidence for community members

**The lawyer checks:**

- The client is a native title party for the area (registered claimant or registered native title body corporate)
- The objection is lodged within four months after the notification day
- Evidence addresses each limb of s 237, and non-disclosure directions are sought for sensitive material
- Instructions on negotiating an agreement with the proponent are recorded
