## When to use it

Use before a USCIS filing or an RFE response that includes a document in another language. Do not use it to certify a translation, and do not use a summary as the translation.

## Used for these tasks

- [Draft a filing cover letter and exhibit list](https://ailawframework.com/practice/immigration-and-migration-law/draft-a-filing-cover-letter-and-exhibit-list.md)

## How AI may be used

A tool may list foreign-language documents in the file and report which ones have no companion translation.

**AI may:**

- Pair each foreign-language file with the English file the lawyer has stored beside it
- Quote the certificate's words if a certificate is already in the file
- Flag a document that is described as a summary

**AI must not:**

- Must not certify that a translation is accurate
- Must not create the certificate
- Must not accept a summary as the translation
- Must not translate the legal conclusion in the covering letter

**The lawyer checks:**

- Each foreign-language document is paired with a full English translation or is held back
- The certificate tracks 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): complete, accurate, and the translator is competent in that language
- A summary is not filed as the translation
- The translator's name on the certificate matches the person who signed it
