## When to use it

Use when checking an expression of interest, or an invitation, for a Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189). Confirm the table still on the Home Affairs page before the points are relied on.

## Used for these tasks

- [Build a points or selection-grid worksheet from the client's facts](https://ailawframework.com/practice/immigration-and-migration-law/build-a-points-or-selection-grid-worksheet-from-the-client-s-facts.md)

## How AI may be used

AI may add the rows from the documents the client has supplied; the practitioner checks each claim against the current points table before an expression of interest is lodged.

**AI may:**

- Enter the points the 11 June 2026 table gives for a fact the client has documented
- Flag employment points that would exceed the cap of 20, and partner points that depend on marital status during processing
- Leave a row blank where the table has no row, including age 45 or over

**AI must not:**

- Must not add nomination points for a subclass 190 or 491 visa; they are not on this table
- Must not award doctorate points for a professional title of doctor that is not a Doctor of Philosophy
- Must not treat the points as still current without the practitioner checking the live table

**The lawyer checks:**

- The table on the Home Affairs page still matches the figures in this worksheet
- Employment is in the nominated or a closely related occupation, at least 20 hours a week, in the 10 years before invitation, and Australian employment was on a substantive visa or Bridging A or B with conditions met
- Only the highest qualification is counted, and a doctorate claim is a Doctor of Philosophy
- The partner row matches the row on the table, including the warning that a change in marital status during processing may mean the single or citizen-partner points are not awarded
