Plain-language letter to a protected person after an ADVO is made: the conditions, that only the defendant can breach it, reporting breaches, service, extension before expiry, interstate recognition and family law orders.

## Key facts

- Kind: Letter. A letter or email you adapt and send.
- Practice area: [Family Violence & Protection Orders](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/family-violence-and-protection-orders.md)
- Jurisdictions: New South Wales, Australia
- AI level: Red. Keep AI out of the decisive steps. A lawyer does the work.
- Law stated as at: 2026-10-18
- Status: Maintained. Checked on 2026-10-18 against the 7 authorities it cites, for New South Wales and Australia.

## When to use it

Send after a final or interim apprehended domestic violence order is made in the Local Court of NSW and the firm acts for the protected person. Send it only to the safe address or channel the client has chosen. For a defendant, use the respondent advice letter in this library instead.

## Used for these tasks

- [Advise on the conditions and on consenting without admissions](https://ailawframework.com/practice/family-violence-and-protection-orders.md#A53-X20260927-5)
- [Build the order, service and expiry register](https://ailawframework.com/practice/family-violence-and-protection-orders.md#A53-X20260927-2)

## How AI may be used

The lawyer writes the advice; AI may only copy the order details and dates into the letter and check them against the sealed order.

**AI may:**

- Copy the order number, court, dates and the additional conditions word for word from the sealed order into the conditions table
- Calculate and list the expiry date and the extension diary date from the order, for the lawyer to confirm
- Turn the lawyer’s finished advice into plainer English or a community language for the lawyer to check against the original

**AI must not:**

- Must not write or summarise the advice on contact, breach, children or family law orders
- Must not paraphrase the conditions: the letter quotes them exactly as the court made them
- Must not receive or store the client’s residential address, safe address or contact details, or the defendant’s
- Must not be used in a tool that the defendant could access, such as a shared family device, account or email

**The lawyer checks:**

- Every condition in the table matches the sealed order word for word, including any exceptions for children or family law orders
- The expiry date and extension diary date are right for the order type, and the diary entry is made
- The letter goes only to the safe address or channel recorded on the client’s safe-contact form
- The advice on any parenting orders reflects what is actually in place and whether s 68R was raised at the hearing
