## Key facts

- Kind: Letter. A letter or email you adapt and send.
- Practice area: [Family Law](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/family-law.md)
- Jurisdictions: Australia, Commonwealth
- AI level: Yellow. AI can help in set ways. A lawyer checks specific points before use.

## When to use it

Use after initial disclosure, once you can identify the property pool and the main contributions and future-needs factors. Do not send before disclosure is reasonably complete, and send only to an address or account that is safe for the client.

## How AI may be used

AI may help structure the letter, build the balance sheet from verified disclosure and calculate percentage scenarios, under close supervision. The range of outcomes, the weight given to family violence and wastage, and the recommendation are the lawyer's judgment.

**AI may:**

- Build the asset and liability table from disclosure the lawyer has verified, with a source for every figure
- Calculate dollar outcomes for percentage scenarios the lawyer specifies
- Produce a plain-language version of the lawyer's settled advice for the lawyer to check

**AI must not:**

- Must not choose the percentage range or assess contributions or family violence effects
- Must not cite case law in the letter unless the lawyer has read and verified the authority
- Must not enter the other party's disclosure or details of family violence into a tool that is not closed and approved

**The lawyer checks:**

- The pool, values and dates against source documents
- Whether the client is safe to receive this letter at the address used
- The time limit has not passed or the leave basis is identified
- The settlement recommendation reflects the client's instructions and risk appetite
