A notice to creditor clients explaining how the firm uses AI to reconcile and triage their debtor ledgers and suggest recovery priorities, what data leaves the firm, what lawyers decide, privacy implications including automated-decision transparency, and the client's choices.

## Key facts

- Practice area: [Debt Recovery & Civil Enforcement](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/debt-recovery-and-civil-enforcement.md)
- Jurisdictions: Australia
- AI level: Yellow. AI can help in set ways. A lawyer checks specific points before use.
- Law stated as at: 2026-10-17
- Status: Maintained. Checked on 2026-10-17 against the 6 authorities it cites, for Australia.

## When to use it

Give it to each creditor client before the firm first runs AI triage on that client's ledger, and again when the tools or the use change materially. Attach it to the costs agreement or engagement letter.

## How AI may be used

AI may reconcile ledgers, group accounts and suggest recovery priorities from the client's data, but lawyers decide which accounts to pursue, by what step and in which court, and the client is told how the tools work.

**AI may:**

- Reconcile ledger entries to invoices and payments and flag gaps
- Group accounts by age, size, debtor type and available information
- Suggest a priority order and possible next steps for lawyer review

**AI must not:**

- Must not decide whether to sue, which court to use or which enforcement step to take
- Must not decide limitation or treat an account as statute barred or in time
- Must not send correspondence or contact debtors
- Must not retain client ledger data after the engagement or use it to train models

**The lawyer checks:**

- The notice accurately describes the tools, data flows and storage location
- The client has acknowledged the notice or chosen an alternative
- Recommendations are reviewed by a lawyer before any step is taken
- Costs disclosure reflects how AI affects fees
