Letter to a client released on bail in NSW setting out each bail condition exactly as made, what it means in practice, the next court date, what police can do on a breach or threatened breach, the offence of failing to appear, and how to apply to vary a condition.

## Key facts

- Kind: Letter. A letter or email you adapt and send.
- Practice area: [Criminal Law](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/criminal-law.md)
- Jurisdictions: New South Wales
- AI level: Yellow. AI can help in set ways. A lawyer checks specific points before use.
- Law stated as at: 2026-10-18
- Status: Maintained. Checked on 2026-10-18 against the 4 authorities it cites, for New South Wales.

## When to use it

Send on the day a client is granted bail in NSW, or after bail conditions are varied. Copy the conditions word for word from the bail acknowledgment or court record. Send it to an address and channel the client has confirmed is safe and private.

## Used for these tasks

- [Check a client’s bail-conditions summary](https://ailawframework.com/practice/criminal-law/check-a-client-s-bail-conditions-summary.md)

## How AI may be used

AI may copy the conditions from the bail record into the letter and draft a plain explanation of each for the lawyer to check against the conditions as made; the lawyer settles the advice.

**AI may:**

- Copy each bail condition word for word from the bail acknowledgment or court record into the table
- Draft a plain-English explanation of each condition, flagged for the lawyer to check line by line
- Fill the next court date, court and reporting details from the court record

**AI must not:**

- Must not paraphrase a condition in the left-hand column or omit any condition
- Must not tell the client that a particular act is allowed unless the lawyer has confirmed the condition permits it
- Must not include protected persons’ addresses or details beyond what the conditions state

**The lawyer checks:**

- Every condition in the letter matches the bail acknowledgment word for word, including exceptions (for example contact through a lawyer)
- Each explanation is accurate and does not narrow or widen the condition
- The next court date, place and time are right and the client knows they must attend
- The client has been told how to raise a problem with a condition before breaching it, and the letter goes to a safe address
