File note of how a personal injury costs update was given and what the client did. On a Uniform Law file it records the steps taken to be satisfied of understanding and consent, and on a Queensland file it records the written disclosure.

## Key facts

- Kind: Form. A form to complete, or a guide to completing an official one.
- Practice area: [Costs, billing & litigation funding](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/costs-billing-and-litigation-funding.md)
- Jurisdictions: Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales
- AI level: Yellow. You and the tool draft together, with you directing. You check every statement you rely on.
- Law stated as at: 2026-10-23
- Status: Maintained. Checked on 2026-10-23 against the 2 authorities it cites, for Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.

## When to use it

Complete it after the costs update notice and the revised estimate have gone to the client, and when the client responds or the time the lawyer set has passed. It stays on the file. It does not replace the notice.

## Used for these tasks

- [Update the costs disclosure after a significant change to the estimate](https://ailawframework.com/obligations/costs-billing-and-litigation-funding/update-the-costs-disclosure-after-a-significant-change-to-the-estimate.md)

## How AI may be used

The tool can record the date the notice was sent and the words the client used, once those are on the file. The lawyer decides whether the Uniform Law steps are satisfied, and what work is now authorised.

**AI may:**

- Enter the send date and the method from the file
- Quote the client's reply where it is already on the file
- Leave the satisfaction and authority lines blank

**AI must not:**

- Must not decide that the client has understood and consented
- Must not treat a signature as all of the section 174(3) steps
- Must not record a Queensland consent as something section 315 requires
- Must not authorise the next piece of work

**The lawyer checks:**

- The written disclosure required by section 174(6) or section 315 was actually given
- On a Uniform Law file, the note states the steps taken and whether they satisfy section 174(3)
- Work done while the client was considering the notice is limited to what the notice said would continue
