## When to use it

Use when an infringement notice from the ACCC is on the file, to record the date it was issued, the amount it states, and the compliance period. It does not recommend payment or a request for withdrawal.

## How AI may be used

AI may enter the notice date, the amount printed on the notice and the resulting compliance dates, and the lawyer decides whether to pay, to seek an extension, or to ask for withdrawal.

**AI may:**

- Enter the issue date, the alleged provision and the amount printed on the notice
- Count 28 days beginning on the day after the issue date, and show the working
- Record any extension or withdrawal request already sent, and its date

**AI must not:**

- Must not recommend that the notice be paid or not paid
- Must not draft a withdrawal request or an extension request
- Must not replace the amount on the notice with a figure from the July 2020 guidelines

**The lawyer checks:**

- The notice was issued within 12 months of the alleged contravention and concerns only one alleged contravention
- The compliance period is taken from the notice and from any extension the ACCC has given
- Payment, if made, is timed so that the ACCC receives it inside the compliance period
- The client is told, by the lawyer, that payment is not an admission, and that the ACCC may refer to a paid notice publicly
