## Key facts

- Kind: Checklist. Steps or checks to work through and tick off.
- Practice area: [Commercial Litigation & Dispute Resolution](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/commercial-litigation-and-dispute-resolution.md)
- Jurisdictions: United States
- AI level: Red. You write the text. The tool writes nothing into the document. Where permitted, it may check, clarify or collect data, and anything it checks or collects is verified.
- Law stated as at: 2026-10-22
- Status: Maintained. Checked on 2026-10-22 against the 5 authorities it cites, for United States.

## When to use it

Use before filing a pleading, motion or brief in a district court whose judge requires an AI certificate, and before any filing where counsel needs a record that citations were checked. Do not file the worksheet. File only the certificate the assigned judge's current order requires.

## How AI may be used

AI may extract the assigned judge's order into a checklist and compare the draft's citations to a list the lawyer supplies. The lawyer writes and signs any certificate that is filed.

**AI may:**

- Extract from the assigned judge's standing order the questions the certificate must answer, without drafting the certificate
- List each legal citation in the draft as a line the lawyer still has to open
- Compare the draft against the checklist and mark a missing item, such as the name of the tool or a statement of how it was used

**AI must not:**

- Must not draft, edit or sign the certificate that will be filed
- Must not confirm that a citation is real, or describe what a case holds, unless the lawyer has opened it and marked the proposition
- Must not treat one judge's order as the rule for another judge or as a Federal Rule

**The lawyer checks:**

- The assigned judge's current standing order and the district's local rules have been opened, not a recollection of them
- Every citation in the filing was opened and supports the proposition beside it
- The human who signs is a person who can make the certificate the order requires, including personal review where the order requires it
