## Key facts

- Kind: Other. A precedent that fits none of the other kinds.
- Practice area: [Banking & Finance](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/banking-and-finance.md)
- Jurisdictions: Australia, New Zealand
- AI level: Red. Keep AI out of the decisive steps. A lawyer does the work.
- Law stated as at: 2026-10-17
- Status: Maintained. Checked on 2026-10-17 against the official form at ppsr.gov.au and the 5 authorities it cites, for Australia and New Zealand.

## When to use it

Use before registering a financing statement for a security interest, including retention of title, PMSI and general security registrations. Not for New Zealand registrations, which use the NZ PPSR under different rules.

## How AI may be used

AI may extract grantor identifiers and collateral details for checking. A person verifies every entry against ASIC, ABR and identity records and makes the registration.

**AI may:**

- Extract grantor names, identifiers, collateral descriptions and dates from the executed security agreement into a data sheet
- Calculate the 20-business-day and PMSI deadlines from the dates supplied, showing the working
- Flag grantors whose identifier cannot be confirmed from a current search

**AI must not:**

- Must not submit, amend or discharge a registration
- Must not choose the grantor identifier or collateral class without a person confirming it
- Must not process individuals’ dates of birth and licence details in a tool not approved for personal information

**The lawyer checks:**

- Grantor identifier chosen in the prescribed order and checked against a current ASIC or ABR search, or the correct identity document
- Collateral type, class and PMSI flag match the security agreement
- Registration made within the s 588FL window and the PMSI deadline, and the verification statement checked on receipt
