| Human involvement | Yellow: Lawyer and AI draft together |
| How AI is used | From the dates the lawyer marks, list each act, its date, and the kind of crime the lawyer has marked. Do not pick the recognition period for a financial-assistance claim, and do not write an explanation for a late application. |
| What the lawyer must review | Use the recognition page for a recognition payment, and Legal Aid's 2-year clock for financial assistance Treat a series as an amount rule on that page, not as a rule that time runs from the last act. Do not put a time limit on counselling. The Legal Aid page states none. Use a firm-controlled tool for health records. ASCR r 9, APP 11 and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) apply. |

## Checking plan

**Verify against sources**

The lawyer decides which clock applies. The tool lists the dates and the period printed for the kind of support the lawyer names.

- What the AI does: From the dates the lawyer marks, list each act, its date, and the kind of crime the lawyer has marked. Do not pick the recognition period for a financial-assistance claim, and do not write an explanation for a late application.
- What the lawyer does: Decide which clock applies and whether the application is in time.
- Who reviews: Lawyer competent in this practice area
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 23 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. On the recognition page, an adult applies within 10 years for domestic violence or sexual assault, and within 2 years for another violent crime or modern slavery.
2. A person who was a child applies at any time for sexual assault, within 10 years of turning 18 for domestic violence or child abuse, and within 2 years of turning 18 for another violent crime or modern slavery.
3. A family victim of homicide has 2 years from the date the death was established as a homicide, or 2 years after turning 18 if they were a child then.
4. Legal Aid NSW states a different clock for financial assistance: 2 years from the crime, or 2 years from turning 18, including domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault. Counselling has no time limit. Do not use the recognition period for an immediate-needs or economic-loss claim.

## Notes

- Legal Aid's recognition table, for an adult, also names child abuse inside the 10-year class. The recognition page's adult bullet names domestic violence or sexual assault. The Act section that sets the period was not opened. The lawyer settles which description applies.
- A series of related acts is used on the recognition page to place some primary-victim amounts, $10,000 and $5,000. The page does not say time runs from the last act.
- Medical reports used to date the acts stay in a firm-controlled tool. ASCR r 9 and APP 11 apply, and a breach may be notifiable under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

## Practical guide

Jurisdiction: New South Wales Victims Support Scheme time limits

**Deliverable**: A list of acts and dates beside the clock for the kind of support the lawyer names.

**Inputs**

- Dates the lawyer marks
- The kind of support: recognition, financial assistance, or counselling
- The applicant's date of birth

**Example**: Illustrative example: The lawyer names financial assistance for a sexual assault four years ago, and the applicant was an adult. The list uses Legal Aid's 2-year financial-assistance clock, not the 10-year recognition period. It does not write a late explanation.

**Stop and escalate when**

- The lawyer has not named the kind of support.
- The applicant's age at the crime is unknown.

Checked 2026-10-23.
