## Checking plan

**Verify against sources**

The tool records the kind of support and the limit the lawyer states from the Victims Support Scheme pages. It does not decide eligibility.

- What the AI does: Record the kind of support, the date of the incident or the homicide finding, the client's age, whether the matter is domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse or other violence, and the limit the lawyer states, each with its source. Do not choose the limit.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides the kind of support and the time limit, checks each date, and diaries the deadline.
- Who reviews: Lawyer competent in this practice area
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 23 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Record counselling separately. The scheme page says there is no time limit to apply for counselling.
2. For a recognition payment, record 10 years for domestic violence or sexual assault and 2 years for other violent crime or modern slavery.
3. If the victim was a child, record 10 years after turning 18 for domestic violence or child abuse, and 2 years after turning 18 for other violent crime or modern slavery.
4. For a family victim of homicide, record 2 years from the date the death was established as a homicide, or 2 years after turning 18 if the applicant was a child at that date.

## Notes

- The recognition-payment page states these periods. It does not, in the text opened, set out an extension test. Do not record that a late application can be accepted unless the lawyer has checked the Act.
- Financial assistance has its own limit. Do not copy the recognition-payment period across without the lawyer saying so.

## Practical guide

Jurisdiction: NSW Victims Support Scheme

**Deliverable**: An eligibility and deadline register entry for the kind of support sought.

**Inputs**

- Kind of support the lawyer names
- Incident date or the date the death was established as a homicide
- Client's date of birth

**Example**: Illustrative example: The lawyer classifies an adult client as a primary victim of domestic violence seeking a recognition payment. The register records a 10-year limit from the incident date on the police report. It does not record a limit for counselling.

**Stop and escalate when**

- The kind of support is not stated.
- A child's date of birth is missing where the limit runs from the 18th birthday.
