| How AI is used | From the request and the mailing list, record the date of the request, the channel it came in on, whether it asks the organisation to stop its own marketing or to stop passing the information to another organisation, and whether a source was asked for. Leave the suppression date blank. The tool does not send the reply. |
| What the lawyer must review | Chapter 7 says an individual may ask an organisation not to use or disclose personal information for direct marketing, or for facilitating direct marketing by other organisations. The organisation must not charge for making the request or for giving effect to it. It gives effect within a reasonable period. The guideline says a reasonable period would generally be no more than 30 days for stopping the communications, and would be no more than 30 days for stopping facilitation. Facilitating means collecting personal information to provide it to another organisation so that other organisation can market its own products. Selling a list is the example. It is not facilitating where a contractor or agent carries out the first organisation's own marketing. The page's examples are a mailing house, door-to-door, and telemarketing on its behalf. If the individual asks for the source, the organisation notifies the source unless it is impracticable or unreasonable, generally within 30 days unless special circumstances apply. Inconvenience alone does not make notification unreasonable. APP 7 does not apply to the extent the Spam Act or the Do Not Call Register Act applies. The tool does not write the message that tells the person the request has been actioned. |

## Checking plan

**Line-by-line review**

Review the complete output at the level of each line; check facts, meaning and omissions.

- What the AI does: From the request and the mailing list, record the date of the request, the channel it came in on, whether it asks the organisation to stop its own marketing or to stop passing the information to another organisation, and whether a source was asked for. Leave the suppression date blank. The tool does not send the reply.

- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Record whether the request is to stop this organisation's marketing or to stop facilitating another organisation's marketing. A contractor sending this organisation's own marketing is not facilitation.
2. Diary 30 days from the request as the guideline's general outer limit, and do not add a charge.
3. If the person asks for the source, diary the same general period unless the lawyer records why notice is impracticable or unreasonable.
4. Do not use this note for an email or SMS campaign that is being checked under the spam rules.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
