## Checking plan

**Verify against sources**

Name the claimant, a person authorised to settle for the insurer, and a person authorised to settle for any contributor.

- What the AI does: In the firm-controlled tool, prepare the conference cover, the attendance list and a blank record of the offers. Do not recommend a figure.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer checks attendance and sets the offer. The record does not recommend a figure.
- Who reviews: Lawyer competent in this practice area
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 23 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Name the claimant, a person authorised to settle for the insurer, and a person authorised to settle for any contributor.
2. Record a reasonable excuse, or the reason one place is unreasonable, before telephone or video is used.
3. Count the conference within 3 months after the section 281 notice unless a later date is agreed or the court has dispensed with it.
4. If WorkCover is the insurer, record that it must tell the employer the time and place.

## Notes

- Section 289 requires a compulsory conference before proceedings unless the court dispenses with it for good reason, taking into account how far the parties have complied. Any party may call it. It is held within 3 months after the insurer's written notice under section 281, or later by agreement. The claimant in person, a person authorised to settle for the insurer, and a person authorised to settle for any contributor must attend and actively participate, unless there is a reasonable excuse. If distance or illness makes one place unreasonable, the conference may be by telephone or video. If WorkCover is the insurer, it must tell the employer the time and place. The text of section 281 was not opened.
- If this work is filed, use the Queensland Courts generative AI page. That page names Supreme Court Practice Direction 5 of 2025 and District Court Practice Direction 12 of 2025, both on the accuracy of references in submissions, and it also names Planning and Environment Court Practice Direction 7 of 2025 and Land Court Practice Direction 4 of 2025. Supreme Court Practice Direction 14 of 2024, subparagraph 16(l), is about expert evidence in criminal proceedings. The direction PDFs were not opened, so their operative text is not set out here.
- Keep health and wage records in a firm-controlled tool. ASCR r 9 and APP 11 apply. A breach may be notifiable under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
