| Fact | Value |

| Human involvement | Yellow: Lawyer and AI draft together |
| How AI is used | From the prison and the method the lawyer names, list the booking step on the Corrections Victoria page: email the prison for a phone call or an in-person visit, or use the AVL Scheduler for video with the identifier and the date of birth. Court hearings are prioritised, and bookings from 27 May 2026 use Webex. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer makes the booking and decides whether video, phone, or a visit is realistic. The plan does not say leave of a court is required. Check ASCR r 9, APP 11, and whether a breach is notifiable under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). |

## Checking plan

**Verify against sources**

The page sets the contact methods and the video-booking identifiers. It does not create a leave requirement.

- What the AI does: From the prison and the method the lawyer names, list the booking step on the Corrections Victoria page: email the prison for a phone call or an in-person visit, or use the AVL Scheduler for video with the identifier and the date of birth. Court hearings are prioritised, and bookings from 27 May 2026 use Webex.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer makes the booking and decides whether video, phone, or a visit is realistic. The plan does not say leave of a court is required. Check ASCR r 9, APP 11, and whether a breach is notifiable under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 23 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. The method matches what the page allows for a lawyer: phone, in person, or video.
2. A video booking has a Justice Accused Identifier, a Master Name Index, or a Corrections Reference Number, plus the name and date of birth.
3. If video time is not available, the plan falls back to a phone call or a visit arranged with the prison.
4. An external clinic escort is marked as a cost payable by the person in prison, and only if that is the appointment.

## Notes

- No Victorian statute was opened requiring leave to institute civil proceedings from prison.
- The page says meetings with a lawyer are confidential. The note stays in the firm tool.

## Practical guide

Jurisdiction: Victoria. A client in prison. Professional visitor contact only.

**Deliverable**: A booking checklist for a phone call, a visit, or a video conference.

**Inputs**

- The prison, if known
- The contact method the lawyer wants
- The identifier and date of birth, if video

**Example**: Illustrative example: The lawyer wants a video conference and the file has a name and date of birth but no reference number. The checklist stops at the identifier. It does not say the booking is confirmed.

**Stop and escalate when**

- The identifier or date of birth is missing for a video booking.
- The plan says the client needs leave to sue.

## Forms and precedents for this task

| Form or precedent | Kind | AI level | Summary |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Letter asking a prison for contact with a client](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/personal-injury-and-compensation/custody-contact-request.md) | Letter | Yellow | Letter asking a Victorian, Queensland or New South Wales prison to arrange a confidential legal conference with a person in custody, using that centre's own booking rule. |
| [Authority for a lawyer to act for a person in custody](https://ailawframework.com/precedents/personal-injury-and-compensation/custody-client-authority.md) | Form | Yellow | A short authority the person in custody can sign so the firm may arrange contact with the prison and receive non-medical information about where they are. It is not a medical release. |
