## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Practice Note SC CL 3: other than an expedited case, expect a trial within 12 to 14 months of the notices of appearance, and a mediation about two to three months before trial.
2. A trial management directions hearing is listed shortly after the mediation date. Participation is compulsory. For a hearing on the papers, file the form by 4 pm on the Wednesday of that week.
3. Consent minutes to vacate a Friday directions date are submitted by 10 am on the Thursday. Later minutes will not be dealt with before the hearing.
4. County Court General List short-form consent orders state whether the trial is by judge alone or by jury, and the estimated duration. The Court allocates a date, usually 12 months from the order.

## Notes

- Practice Note SC GEN 25, issued on 14 May 2026, covers Supreme Court documents, including pleadings, submissions and expert reports. Do not put confidential or sensitive material into a public AI tool.
- Do not prepare a first-directions agenda for a Supreme Court list proceeding unless an order has listed one. The Court makes standard orders on the notice of appearance.

## Practical guide

Jurisdiction: Supreme Court of Victoria personal injury lists, or the County Court General List

**Deliverable**: A directions agenda. Proposed minutes are left for the lawyer.

**Inputs**

- The current orders
- The court and list
- The next listing date

**Example**: Illustrative example: The file has a notice of appearance and no directions date. The agenda lists the standard timetable. It does not invent a first directions hearing.

**Stop and escalate when**

- The tool is asked to file consent minutes.
