## Checking plan

**Verify against sources**

The lawyer checks the chronology against the records. Health information stays in a closed tool, and nothing generated is sworn or filed as the client's evidence.

- What the AI does: Build a dated treatment chronology from records the firm is allowed to use, on a closed tool, with a page cite for every row and a list of gaps. Do not send the records to a public tool.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer makes the legal assessment, checks the source material and authorises the output for its intended use.
- Who reviews: Lawyer competent in this practice area
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 23 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Confirm the firm may use the records and that the tool is closed. The Law Institute guidance says confidential client information is not put into an open-source or commercial system without the client's consent.
2. The County Court practice note and Practice Note SC GEN 25 both say confidential or sensitive information is not entered into a public tool.
3. Spot-check dates, providers and page cites against the source pages. Separate the date of treatment from the date of a report.
4. If any part of the chronology will be filed, the lawyer verifies it. Asking another AI tool to confirm it is not verification.

## Notes

- Practice Note SC GEN 25 and the County Court practice note of 9 June 2026 treat affidavits, witness statements and expert reports as court documents that need particular caution. The chronology is not those documents.
- The Health Records Act 2001 is in force as version 050, effective 1 May 2026. The principles in that Act were not opened for this version.

## Practical guide

Jurisdiction: Victoria: a plaintiff personal injury file, including a matter that may later be in the County Court or the Supreme Court

**Deliverable**: An internal chronology with page cites and a gap list.

**Inputs**

- Records the firm is allowed to use
- The firm's closed-tool settings
- Any existing chronology the lawyer wants compared

**Example**: Illustrative example: A public tool is the only one available. The chronology is not built. The lawyer uses the firm's closed tool, then checks ten rows against the scanned pages before anyone relies on the dates.

**Stop and escalate when**

- The only available tool is a public one.
- A row has no page cite, or the cited page cannot be opened.

Checked 2026-10-23.
