## Checking plan

**Verify against sources**

The lawyer spot-checks the chronology against the records. Health information stays in a firm-controlled tool.

- What the AI does: Build a dated chronology from the records loaded into a firm-controlled tool, and flag every entry that has no page to cite.
- What the lawyer does: Make the legal assessment, check the source material and authorise the output for its intended use.
- Who reviews: Lawyer competent in this practice area
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 23 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Use only records the lawyer has placed in a firm-controlled tool. Do not load health information into a public chatbot.
2. Every entry has a date and a page. An entry with no page is marked as uncited.
3. Keep this chronology separate from the notice of claim. The notice is completed by the lawyer and the client.
4. Spot-check a sample of entries, including the first, the last and any entry that drives a head of loss.

## Notes

- Guidance Statement No. 37 points to rule 9 of the Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules and to obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The courts page says private, confidential, suppressed or privileged information is not entered into a public chatbot.
- If the chronology is later annexed to a document filed in the Supreme Court or the District Court, Practice Direction 5 of 2025 or Practice Direction 12 of 2025 applies and the practitioner checks it.

## Practical guide

Jurisdiction: Queensland plaintiff personal injury files. The chronology is an internal working document.

**Deliverable**: A dated chronology with page cites, ready for the lawyer's spot-check.

**Inputs**

- Records loaded into the firm-controlled tool
- The lawyer's list of what the chronology must cover
- Any existing approved chronology

**Example**: Illustrative example: The draft dates a scan to the day of the letter that enclosed it. The lawyer corrects the date to the day on the report and marks the letter date separately.

**Stop and escalate when**

- The records are not in a firm-controlled tool.
- A material entry cannot be tied to a page.
