| Human involvement | Yellow: Lawyer and AI draft together |
| How AI is used | From the institutions and years the lawyer has named, draft a request that asks for complaint files, personnel records of the person named, placement or enrolment records, and earlier claims, for those years only. Use the lawyer's list of documents, and do not add allegations or describe the abuse. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer settles the letter before it is sent. It asks only for the categories the lawyer has approved. Check privilege, other people's privacy, and whether a pre-court duty to produce already applies. Do not describe the abuse in the letter. Keep the file in the firm's system. Confidentiality, APP 11 and a notifiable-breach check apply. |

## Checking plan

**Source-by-source verification**

Trace relied-on content to the linked sections and check for a definition or exception the output has missed.

- What the AI does: From the institutions and years the lawyer has named, draft a request that asks for complaint files, personnel records of the person named, placement or enrolment records, and earlier claims, for those years only. Use the lawyer's list of documents, and do not add allegations or describe the abuse.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer settles the letter before it is sent. It asks only for the categories the lawyer has approved. Check privilege, other people's privacy, and whether a pre-court duty to produce already applies. Do not describe the abuse in the letter. Keep the file in the firm's system. Confidentiality, APP 11 and a notifiable-breach check apply.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. The letter names institutions, people and years. It does not narrate the abuse.
2. Do not ask for another child's records unless the lawyer has added that category.
3. In Queensland, do not treat this letter as the notice of claim. If that Act applies, the notice is a separate step, addressed to the head where the institution is unincorporated.
4. In New South Wales, where the recipient is a State agency, the lawyer has spoken with the client about principle 17 before any account is enclosed.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
- Before any output is used in a court document, read the forum's generative AI rule: Victoria, Supreme Court Practice Note SC Gen 25; New South Wales, Practice Note SC Gen 23; Queensland, the courts' generative AI page and Supreme Court Practice Direction 5 of 2025.
