| How AI is used | From the tax invoice, the grant stages and the published fee scale, mark each line as within the assigned stage, outside the grant dates, a disbursement without approval, or a charge sought from the aided person or someone paying on their behalf. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer decides which lines may be claimed from the commission, which are prohibited, and whether any pre-grant work sits outside the statutory ban. |

## Checking plan

**Claim lines against the grant**

Check every claimed line against the grant dates, the assigned stage and the ban on charging the aided person.

- What the AI does: From the tax invoice, the grant stages and the published fee scale, mark each line as within the assigned stage, outside the grant dates, a disbursement without approval, or a charge sought from the aided person or someone paying on their behalf.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides which lines may be claimed from the commission, which are prohibited, and whether any pre-grant work sits outside the statutory ban.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Confirm no line seeks payment from the aided person, or from anyone on their behalf, without the commission's prior approval.
2. Separate work done before the grant date from work assigned under the grant.
3. Match disbursements and counsel fees to an approval and to the evidence the commission requires on the file.
4. Do not send the invoice until the lawyer has accepted or rejected each line.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
