## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Practice area | [Legal Aid & Community Legal Practice](https://ailawframework.com/practice/legal-aid-and-community-legal-practice.md) |
| Human involvement | Red: Lawyer writes; AI may check, clarify or collect data |
| How AI is used | Check the court form the lawyer has drafted for completeness against the form’s requirements, list every fact in it that does not match the client’s documents on file, and list the attachments and service steps the client must complete. The tool writes nothing in the document. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer drafts the document from the client’s instructions, explains to the client what they must do to file and serve it and that the lawyer is not appearing, and checks that no protected address or safety detail appears in a document the other party will receive. |

## Checking plan

**Lawyer-led judgement**

The lawyer makes the substantive assessment. Any permitted AI assistance remains supporting work with its own checks.

- What the AI does: Check the court form the lawyer has drafted for completeness against the form’s requirements, list every fact in it that does not match the client’s documents on file, and list the attachments and service steps the client must complete. The tool writes nothing in the document.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer drafts the document from the client’s instructions, explains to the client what they must do to file and serve it and that the lawyer is not appearing, and checks that no protected address or safety detail appears in a document the other party will receive.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.
- Restriction: The lawyer makes the substantive assessment. Any permitted AI assistance remains supporting work with its own checks.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Confirm the client’s personal, financial and safety information goes only into a tool the service has approved for client data, and that the output discloses nothing the client has not agreed to share.
2. Confirm the tool output is a checklist and mismatch list only, and nothing it emitted is in the document.
3. Check the form version is current on the court’s website on the day.
4. Confirm the client understands the limits of the retainer in writing.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
