## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Practice area | [Legal Aid & Community Legal Practice](https://ailawframework.com/practice/legal-aid-and-community-legal-practice.md) |
| Human involvement | Yellow: Lawyer and AI draft together |
| How AI is used | From the grant and the retainer, list who is on the record, whether the grant is conditioned on in-house, a community legal centre or a named private practitioner, and whether anyone has asked for a different practitioner. Do not draft a transfer or a notice of ceasing to act. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer decides whether the condition on the grant can be challenged and whether a criminal reassignment is exceptional. |

## Checking plan

**Who conducts the grant**

Record the condition on the grant and whether a criminal reassignment is even open.

- What the AI does: From the grant and the retainer, list who is on the record, whether the grant is conditioned on in-house, a community legal centre or a named private practitioner, and whether anyone has asked for a different practitioner. Do not draft a transfer or a notice of ceasing to act.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides whether the condition on the grant can be challenged and whether a criminal reassignment is exceptional.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. An applicant's choice of lawyer is not binding. Record the condition on the grant, not the name on the application form.
2. There is no Legal Aid Review Panel appeal against a condition that in-house lawyers or a specified private practitioner conduct the matter. Do not prepare that appeal from this map.
3. The page cites the Mental Health (Criminal Procedure) Act 1990. Confirm the current name of that Act before using sections 32 or 33.
4. Representation guidelines 1 and 2 were not opened. Do not fill in criteria the policy only points to.
5. Under the children's criminal matters heading, the page says private practitioners are used only if in-house cannot act or there are exceptional circumstances. The opening sentence of that section also speaks of representation of prisoners. Read that sentence against the heading before relying on it.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
