Legal aid grants, duty lawyering, community legal centres and plain-language help with court AI rules.

Tasks for lawyers and workers in legal aid commissions and community legal centres. Checked on 10 October 2026.

Client-facing tools sit in A43. This area is the aid and community practice itself.

## Key facts

- Tasks: 8
- Green: 2, Yellow: 4, Red: 2
- Levels: Green is AI drafts and the lawyer checks; Yellow is lawyer and AI draft together; Red is the lawyer writes and AI may only check, clarify or collect data.

## Summary

Legal aid and community legal practice covers eligibility, duty work, grants of aid and help for people who are preparing their own documents. Keep client information out of public tools, and have the responsible lawyer confirm every fact that will be filed or sent.

## Principles

- **The grant and the conflict come first**: Eligibility, means and conflicts are decided by the service’s own process. An AI summary does not decide them.
- **Public tools are the wrong place for a client’s story**: Duty notes, protection material and family facts stay out of a public tool unless the service has approved that environment.

## Checklist

- Confirm the grant, the means test and the conflict position before any assistance is used.
- Keep culturally sensitive and safety-sensitive material out of public AI tools.
- The responsible lawyer approves the exact output before it is filed, sent or published.

## Restrictions

- Do not file, send or publish generated text until the responsible lawyer has checked it against the instructions and the current source.
- Do not put suppressed, privileged or safety-sensitive information into a public AI tool.

## Jurisdiction note

Court AI rules differ by forum. Use the rule for the court on the file.

## Basis

Planning guidance checked against the linked public sources on 10 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.
