## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Practice area | [Knowledge Management](https://ailawframework.com/practice/knowledge-management.md) |
| Human involvement | Yellow: Lawyer and AI draft together |
| How AI is used | From a log that contains only a user, a date, and a tool name, count the rows by tool and by month. Write no client name, no document text, and no conclusion about competence. |
| What the lawyer must review | You decide what the count means. If the log still contains information relating to a representation, Model Rule 1.6(a) and (c) apply before it is processed, and ABA Formal Opinion 512 requires informed consent before that information goes into a tool that will not keep it confidential. This count runs only on a log reduced to user, date, and tool name. Model Rule 1.1 requires competent representation. A count of uses is not, under that rule or under Opinion 512, proof that the representation was competent. Comment 8 to Rule 1.1 calls for attention to the benefits and risks of relevant technology. It does not set a usage target. |

## Checking plan

- What the AI does: From a log that contains only a user, a date, and a tool name, count the rows by tool and by month. Write no client name, no document text, and no conclusion about competence.
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 22 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Notes

- If a row contains client text, stop and do not count that export. The count is defined only for a stripped log.
- Do not publish the count as a claim that the firm meets a standard of care. No such numerical standard was opened.
