| How AI is used | From the value, arrival mode, permit, tobacco or alcohol content, and whether the goods are to be warehoused, set out which declaration the import-declarations page requires: an Import Declaration (N10), a Self-Assessed Clearance Declaration, or a Warehouse Declaration (N20). List each fact that is missing. Do not complete the declaration. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer decides which declaration is lodged, and the licensed customs broker or the importer completes it. The Australian Border Force does not complete an Import Declaration. |

## Checking plan

**Lawyer review required**

The responsible lawyer reviews the work against the instructions, sources and intended use.

- What the AI does: From the value, arrival mode, permit, tobacco or alcohol content, and whether the goods are to be warehoused, set out which declaration the import-declarations page requires: an Import Declaration (N10), a Self-Assessed Clearance Declaration, or a Warehouse Declaration (N20). List each fact that is missing. Do not complete the declaration.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides which declaration is lodged, and the licensed customs broker or the importer completes it. The Australian Border Force does not complete an Import Declaration.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Confirm the value, the arrival mode, any permit, and whether the goods include tobacco or alcohol, before treating a short format Self-Assessed Clearance as available.
2. Confirm tobacco is not being entered for warehousing, and that goods of AUD1,000 or less are not being entered on a Warehouse Declaration.
3. Do not lodge, sign or complete form B650, form B374, form B368 or form B369 from the note.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
