## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Practice area | [In-House / General Counsel](https://ailawframework.com/practice/in-house-general-counsel.md) |
| Human involvement | Red: Lawyer writes; AI may check, clarify or collect data |
| How AI is used | Working only from a copy of the disclosure and intake note that the lawyer has de-identified, extract into a table each element the lawyer must decide: the discloser’s stated relationship to the company, to whom it was made, what conduct it describes and the date received. Flag where the material reads as a personal work-related grievance. The tool writes no part of the assessment or of any reply to the discloser. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer decides whether the discloser is an eligible whistleblower, whether the recipient is an eligible recipient, whether the matter is disclosable or solely a personal work-related grievance, who may lawfully be told the discloser’s identity, and what protection and investigation steps follow. The lawyer writes the assessment and keeps the list of people who know the discloser’s identity as the lawyer’s own record, outside the tool. |

## Checking plan

**Lawyer-led judgement**

The lawyer makes the substantive assessment. Any permitted AI assistance remains supporting work with its own checks.

- What the AI does: Working only from a copy of the disclosure and intake note that the lawyer has de-identified, extract into a table each element the lawyer must decide: the discloser’s stated relationship to the company, to whom it was made, what conduct it describes and the date received. Flag where the material reads as a personal work-related grievance. The tool writes no part of the assessment or of any reply to the discloser.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides whether the discloser is an eligible whistleblower, whether the recipient is an eligible recipient, whether the matter is disclosable or solely a personal work-related grievance, who may lawfully be told the discloser’s identity, and what protection and investigation steps follow. The lawyer writes the assessment and keeps the list of people who know the discloser’s identity as the lawyer’s own record, outside the tool.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.
- Restriction: The lawyer makes the substantive assessment. Any permitted AI assistance remains supporting work with its own checks.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Confirm the copy given to the tool has been de-identified, including details from which the discloser could be identified, before any extraction starts.
2. Check each extracted element against the words of the disclosure itself, not the intake note’s summary.
3. Confirm the personal work-related grievance flag has been decided by the lawyer, including whether the matter also discloses a systemic issue or detriment.
4. Record the date the disclosure was received and the date of the lawyer’s decision.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
